  • The family being completely torn apart. We're introduced to such a loving and warm family, only for them to become empty vessel's as adults. The only one who seemed genuinely happy, somewhat, was Nell after she gets married.

  • This was so well put. This show definitely sticks with you and at random moments, parts of the show come back to me. The horror of the kitten moment, the heartbreaking storylines and just how amazingly all the details were done, right down to the background ghosts that always had you second guessing your reality. Definitely one of the best shows made.

    Helen SpiersHelen Spiers4 dögum síðan
  • The most unsettling and relatable part about the show was actually the fact that all the fear, illness, addiction, neglect, anger, toxicity between family members came into life through those ghosts haunting them till they were adults (or dead haha). Despite them growing apart their present was so interconnected with the house (aka past/family) in a quite obvious but also debatable way, making you ask questions to yourself and others that caused even more anxiety and uneasiness.

    orfeas sknorfeas skn5 dögum síðan
  • I noticed their “grounding of reality” technique as one of the first reasons the show stuck with me more than other horrors. When you get scared because the street is quiet and foggy, it’s because that environment reminds you of a horror movie. In this case, oh, wait...normal everyday life feels that way. It’s genius

  • It has been a while since I've been able to relax and watch any shows or movies. But The Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor are my 2 favorites of all time as of now. Watched the shows back to back and the story telling and kept me hooked. I thought the funeral scenes were kinda flat, at times, but overall. I fell in love with every aspect of these shows. I have been going crazy trying to find another show or movie to watch that might match these two. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • BLY MANNOR WAS SO BORRING, it was SO predictable!, and where did the horror genre go ? me and my best bud waited 2 years for the second season, and we watched togeather online, we waited and waited for something to happen . but nothing, what a let down , the thing is, WE LOVED the first one, rewatched it 3 times, always noticing new things, but the second one... i mean common . This second season was a drama, not a horror mystery show.

  • After all the walking dead and the horror classics from the 80s and 90s (friday the 13th, Jason, Elm Street etc) , jump scare just kinda pisses me off, not really scaring me. It relies too much on animalistic instinct. Also gross looking things like rotten looking faces - I just find them cheap horror and kinda obsolete if you ask me. I think the real horror starts at psychological and things based on reality and real actions, ugly things people do to each other and manifesting as something that may look normal but with knowing what's behind it, makes it terrifying and memorable, because we can relate.

    • It's classic victorian ghost story, and the story its based on (Turning of a Screw) is a masterpiece written by Henry James and have been made into a movie like 3-4 times already. Sometimes you need to appreciate great story telling and superb acting. Classic horror was progressed from works by Henry James and Edgar Allan Poe and to truly appreciate their work, their novels and books can be far more terrifying by reading them than someone making a movie out of them. The atmosphere and suspense sometimes can't be transferred into visuals, it's the skill of the director, but masterclass writers wants you to use your imagination as you're reading and they can be so successful, that their story will leave a mark on you for the rest of your life.

      Frank SzFrank Sz6 dögum síðan

    • @aqua creaturae it’s gonna be a long comment LOL, SPOILERS IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT ALL. But in hill house when the kids are grown there was always some type of doubt in their minds as to what actually happened to their mother and it was the house. The house was a physical manifestation of pain and suffering that’s why the ghosts look so rotten and decayed and scary, it was a horrifying story cos it was about a family torn apart by a tragedy not even the kids know about, only the father who has tried to protect his children from the truth that the house was Evil all along, and the horror really was that the house was evil it wanted everyone back to kill them, and it just has so much more horrifying imagery and scenes. The kids forgive the father in the end the grief comes from the family tragedy and the redemption is when the father sacrifices his soul to save everyone in the family. Bly Manor is literally a love story, There is nothing but love everyone loves each other in any way, Hannah loves the children with everything in her being. Dani loves the gardener, the uncle loves the mother, Jessica loved peter quint. Then on the side you have Danis Guilt following her in every corner in the shape of her dead fiancé and when she Accepts what happened and leaves the guilt behind her she finds true love. You have the uncle also getting over his guilt and redeems himself. So all in all the first story is mainly a horror haunting story, the second is a love story with ghostly aspects.

  • It was subtle yet invasive in what made this show so disturbing and chilling. Characters living this existence: lack of boundaries to personal space where they had no control of when or where this would occur, constant sadness and loss due to past rejections/vulnerabilities, all wrapped up in the threat of mental torture through the repeated wearing down of the mind by the spirits. Highly plausible but also not. 👍
