What is The Haunting of Bly Manor Based On? The Origin Story Explained
Dead doesn't mean gone. An au pair plunges into an abyss of chilling secrets in this gothic romance from the creator of "The Haunting of Hill House."

  • Ok yes, Colin Firth was in Pride and Prejudice, not Sense and Sensibility. Already had a text from my sister 😭

  • I worked on a play of The Turn of the Screw back in the early 2000s. The story is set in the 1830s-40s but the narrator is in the 1880s, telling a tale he heard in the 1850s-60s.

  • If you have a massive hit like HOHH, just stick to the formula for S02. Sorry to say this was terrible. If you are expecting it to be HOHH PII you're gonna be disappointed because this is not a ghost story it's a soap opera and a very confusing one at that. There is so much going on in the script, the writing leaves so much to be desired, but pointedly the plot becomes SO convoluted and involved a few episodes in you have no idea what the hell is going on, and it makes The Luminaries storyline, which so many complained about, a moot point in comparison. By E05 I spent three episodes yelling at the screen in frustration it was so aggravating and plain RIDICULOUS. On top of that it apparently needed to be narrated without actually helping explain anything. The fact it was set within a long story being told at the end of a wedding party in the first place never made sense and was also totally extraneous. Way too many concepts that were not needed. It was dragged out and bogged down in unnecessarily embellished details that went nowhere. The issues with this show were endless. This added almost nothing to my life except many eyerolls and I was pleased when it was over. I was still counting down to the last 5 minutes in E09 for it to be done. Disappointing is an understatement.

  • As a Brit it's so annoying that this is ment to be set in England but there are to many American thing in this. Just to list a few The way the buildings look The class room The fact they have a British flag on the deck of the teacher. The clothing style of the English people The age of the cars being use The way English characters speak. There a laundry shoot in the house. Sooo many more things

  • One of the seasons of Mike's anthology should be an adaptation of The Yellow Wallpaper. There are many ghostly gothic elements to the story, when it in itself is a detailing of a complete psychological breakdown. Imagine how they could reinterpret that final ending "I finally got out, I finally got out..."

    • Perfectly said! I think too many people went in expecting the traditional sense of “scary”. I put myself into Jamie’s shoes, and all of the other characters with their love stories, and felt it deeply. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m married and a softie in my old age now 😂 But I felt Jamie and Dani’s story. My husband is my best friend and neither of us have no idea how long we have together. As morbid as it sounds, you never know how long you have anyone you love in your life. So you have to enjoy every day with them.
